Course Approach

A course I am teaching for the first time in FA ’26, where students learn the basic of layout, type, alignment, color, and spacing. Class operates primarily in Adobe InDesign, from an initial shape-building activity to the final project of creating a two page newsletter.

Signature Work

Since the class is still underway, I have less work products from students than i typically would from other classes. This is another class I inherited from Dr. Amy O’Brien, who had baked-in design challenges throughout the semester. So far we have completed one, a syllabus redesign where students showed their work after working on a very tight turnaround.

Goal of the class is to have students understand the advantages of InDesign for pre-production of documents, and creation of visually stunning layouts. Eventually, would to incorporate more of the Adobe Suite (Photoshop + Illustrator) into the course.
